1.Scope*
1.1Thisspecificationcoversprecipitationhardeningfasten-ersandfastenermaterial(UNSN07718)forhightemperatureservice.
1.2Thefollowingreferencedgeneralrequirementsarein-dispensableforapplicationofthisspecification:SpecificationA962/A962M.
1.3Supplementaryrequirementsareprovidedforuseattheoptionofthepurchaser.Thesupplementaryrequirementsonlyapplywhenspecifiedindividuallyinthepurchaseorderorcontract.
1.4Thisspecificationisexpressedinbothinch-poundandinSIunits.However,unlessthepurchaseorderorcontractspecifiestheapplicableMdesignation(SIunits),theinch-poundunitsshallapply.

5.1MeltingProcess—Alloyshallbemultiplemeltedusingconsumableelectrodepracticeintheremeltcycleorshallbeinductionmeltedundervacuum.Ifconsumableelectroderemeltingisnotperformedinvacuum,electrodesproducedbyvacuuminductionmeltingshallbeused.5.2HeatTreatment:

5.2.1.1TemperatureVariation—Solutiontreatingtempera-turesshallbecontrolledintherangeof625°F[614°C].5.2.2PrecipitationHeatTreatment—Materialshallbeheatedtoatemperatureof1325°F[720°C],heldattempera-tureforeighthoursminimum,furnacecooledto1150°F[620°C]at100°F[55°C]perhour,heldattemperatureforeighthours,andcooledtoroomtemperature.Alternatively,materialmaybefurnacecooledto1150°F[620°C]atanyrateprovidedthetimeat1150°F[620°C]isadjustedsothetotalprecipi-tationheattreatmenttimeis18hoursminimum.
5.2.2.1TemperatureVariation—Precipitationtreatmenttemperaturesandcoolingratesshallbecontrolledintherangeof615°F[68°C].
5.3Straightening—Whenstraighteningisnecessaryitshallbedoneaftersolutiontreatingandpriortoaging.Straighteningafteragingisprohibited.
5.4Threads—Threadsshallbeformedbyrollinginonepassafteroxideshavebeenremovedfromtheareatobethreaded.
