Features

The MAX6406–MAX6411 is a family of ultra-low powercircuits used for monitoring battery, power-supply, andoTiny 4-Bump (2 X2) Chip-Scale Package, (Packageregulated system voltages. Each detector contains aPending Full Qualification—Expected Completionprecision bandgap reference comparator and isDate 6/30/01. (MAX6406/MAX6407/MAX6408)

The MAX6406–MAX6411 assert a signal whenever theoFactory-Trimmed Reset Thresholds from 2.20V toVCCsupply voltage falls below a preset threshold.4.63V in Approximately 100mV IncrementsThese devices are differentiated by their output logicconfigurations and preset threshold voltages. Theo±2.5% Threshold Accuracy (-40°C to +85°C)MAX6406/MAX6409 (push-pull) and the MAX6408/oManual Reset Input

MAX6411 (open-drain) have an active-low output (OUTis logic low when VCCis below VTH). The MAX6407/oGuaranteed OUT Valid to VCC= 1.0V

MAX6410 have an active-high push-pull output (OUT oThree Reset Output Logic Options: Active-Lowis logic high when VCCis below Vguaranteed to be in the correct output logic state forTH). All parts arePush-Pull, Active-High Push-Pull, and Active-LowVOpen-Drain fast transients on VCCdown to 1V. The detector is designed to ignoreoImmune to Short VCCTransientsMAX6408 have voltage thresholds between 2.20V andCC. The MAX6406/MAX6407/3.08V in approximately 100mV increments. TheoNo External Components

MAX6409/MAX6410/MAX6411 have voltage thresholdsbetween 3.30V and 4.63V in approximately 100mVincrements.

Ultra-low supply current of 500nA (MAX6406/MAX6407/P ART TEMP. RANGEP IN-PACKAGEMAX6408) makes these parts ideal for use in portable MAX6406BS_ _-T-°C to +85°CUequipment. These devices are available in 4-bump 40 CSP-4chip-scale packages (UCSP).

Many µP-based products require manual reset capabil-ity, allowing the operator, a test technician, or externallogic circuit to initiate a reset. A logic low on MRassertsOUT/OUT. OUT/OUTremains asserted while MRis low.This input has an internal 50kΩpullup resistor, so it canbe left open if it is not used. MRcan be driven with TTLor CMOS logic levels, or with open-drain/collector out-puts. Connect a normally open momentary switch fromMRto GND to create a manual reset function. If MRisdriven from long cables or if the device is used in anoisy environment, connect a 0.1µF capacitor from MRto ground to provide additional noise immunity.

Applications InformationInterfacing to Different Logic

Voltage Components

The MAX6408/MAX6411 have an active-low, open-drain output. This output structure will sink currentwhen OUTis asserted. Connect a pullup resistor fromOUTto any supply voltage up to 5.5V (Figure 1). Selecta resistor value large enough to allow a valid logic low(see Electrical Characteristics), and small enough toregister a logic high while supplying all input currentsand leakage paths connected to the OUTline.

Negative-Going VCCTransients

These devices are relatively immune to short-duration,Chip Informationnegative-going VCCtransients (glitches).

Maximum Transient Duration vs. Threshold Overdrivegraph, for which output pulses are not generated. Thegraph shows the maximum pulse width that a negative-going VCCtransient may typically have before thedevices issue output signals. As the amplitude of thetransient increases, the maximum allowable pulse widthdecreases.

UCSP ReliabilityPin Configuration

The chip-scale package (UCSP) represents a uniquepackaging form factor that may not perform equally to aTOP VIEW AFTER ASSEMBLED ON PC BOARD (BUMPS AT THE BOTTOM)packaged product through traditional mechanical reliabil-ity tests. CSP reliability is integrally linked to the user’sassembly methods, circuit board material, and usageMAX6406-GNDVCCMAX6411environment. The user should closely review these areasA1A245 MILwhen considering use of a CSP package. PerformanceOUT (OUT)MRthrough Operating Life Test and Moisture ResistanceB1B2remains uncompromised as it is primarily determined bythe wafer-fabrication process.

45 MILMechanical stress performance is a greater considera-UCSPtion for a CSP package. CSPs are attached through( ) ARE FOR MAX6407/MAX6410direct solder contact to the user’s PC board, foregoingthe inherent stress relief of a packaged product leadframe.
