Nowadays with the rapid development of science and technology, the environment has been greatly changed. More and more serious environmental problems have occurred such as air pollution, water pollution and soil erosion.
Air pollution is caused by excessive emissions of industrial wastes and car exhausts. It causes damage to the ozone layer and increases global temperature rise. Acid rain is another terrible result of air pollution, which can corrode buildings and ruins crops.
To tackle these environmental problems, governments should make strict laws to regulate the amount of industrial emission, such as carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen and sulphur. Moreover, vehicle owners should reduce their use of cars, choose clean energy and take public transportations instead.
Water pollution is mainly caused by chemical plants’
discharging waste waters and sewages directly into rivers and lakes. It contains various pollutants like heavy metals, oil and fecal coliforms which are either toxic or dangerous to human health. To solve this problem, governments should strictly supervise factories’ activities and strengthen punishments for illegal dumping. Meanwhile, people should also pay attention to their daily life behaviours, such as throwing garbage into water, to contribute to protection of
rivers and lakes.
Soil erosion is due to massive deforestation and bad farming practices, which will cause land desertification. To prevent it from happening, planting trees is an effective solution. Governments and organizations should take the
responsibilities to guard the forests and natural resources. Besides that, people should stop cutting down trees for making money and need to plant more trees instead.
In conclusion, everyone should do their part in protecting the environment. And only when each of us takes actions, can we create a healthy and sustainable living environment.
