The comparison of the writing style between Byron and Shelley

Byron and Shelley are romantic poets. Their writing style has similarities and differences.

Firstly, their poems are full of passion and imaginative. Influenced by French Revolution, they desired for struggle, freedom and liberty. Because of similar experiences, their poems expressed their against for the authorities and region. They connected poems with revolutionary practice. All of these made they have similarities on the theme and art performance of their poems.

Then, there are some differences between them. With a contradictory and complex personality, Byron regards passion as the source of creation; with sarcasm as his keynote, he creates not only proud and a lot of Byronic heroes but also champions for democracy. Most of his poems expressed a depressed feeling. Byron's poems are like the oratory, but his description is simple and fresh. He often uses vivid objects in his poems. Byron combined the romantic with satire in his poems. His poems expressed the anguish and hopelessness to life at the same time. Byron's poems fight for common people, but ignore the power. They are lonely heroes without the support of people. So their stories usually are tragedy.

And Shelley, whose character is enthusiastic and simple, holds imagination the highest in poetry, and enthusiastic praise is his gist; the images he creates are mostly confident optimists in pursuit of liberty. Same as Byron, Shelley's poems help the poor people against with the hypocritical noblemen. But the difference is they are not lonely heroes. Shelley brings all the optimism and hope to the people.
