The compressor (01) further includes opening/closing means (31) so thatwhen it is required that the compressor is operated at a high efficiency, the bypasspassage is closed and when it is required that the compressor is operated with a highlevel of ability, the bypass passage is opened so as to allow high pressure gas to beintroduced into the compression chamber (24) in which a compression stroke is carriedout whereby the gas is compressed again.
